A Few of My 2026 Goals
Hello 2026!
2025 was a great year for me – I turned 40, we went on some really fun trips (Australia was a huge highlight), and we’re in such a fun stage with our girls right now.
And, as usual, I’m excited about a new year with new goals and adventures to look forward to.
Here are a few of my goals for 2026:
A Few of My Goals for 2025
- Do 6 author interviews. One of the things I’d like to add to Everyday Reading is more author interviews (and that’s not a hard bar to clear because I’ve done about 4 in 19 years of running Everyday Reading). I’m hoping to do 6 this year, with many of them correlated to the books we’re reading for Everyday Reading Book Club in 2026.
- Take a ceramics class. My sister did this last year and invited me to join her this year, along with Ani (who is 13). I think it’ll be a fun activity this winter and a great time with my sister and daughter. This is definitely outside my comfort zone (I am not traditionally artistic) so it’ll be great to push myself to try something new.
- Keep up my (mostly) daily Flecks of Gold journaling. This journal is a three year journal with a few lines every day to record special or funny moments with your kids (or just your life). I started doing it in 2024 and I’ve loved it as a way to wind down before bed and this past year it has been especially fun to read the previous year’s entries as I write for that day. (P.S. My Flecks of Gold code is EVERYDAYREADING).
- Read 175 books. This was my goal in 2024 and 2025 and I missed it by quite a bit in 2024 (I was in the low 130s) and allllmost hit it in 2025 (I was in the 160s). This is my year to actually hit it. I know some people resist a numbers goal because they feel like it makes them focus on quantity rather than quality, but for me, the number helps me focus on choosing reading rather than my phone, which is what I’m really going for.
- Strength training 3x a week. After I did a Dexa scan in November, one of my priorities is working on my bone density and everyone told me that the evidence for weighted vests doing much is extremely thin and that progressive overload weight training is a much better bet. I’ve been doing strength training for years but I’m getting more serious this year about doing it consistently and pushing myself to do heavier weights instead of being a little bit lazy about it.
- Watch Ken Burns’ Revolutionary War series. I’m a big Ken Burns fan and I’m excited about his new series because I feel like I don’t have as good of a grasp on the Revolutionary War as I’d like. This is a good goal to work on this winter while it’s cold and dark outside!
- Try Recipe Club. I’ve followed Kelsey Nixon for years and decided that 2026 would be my year to try out her Recipe Club for making dinner easier! I did a meal planning subscription years ago and loved it until it shut down so I’m excited to try a new one out this year!
What goals or resolutions are on your list for 2026? I’d love to hear!
