Book Deals for a Back-to-School Weekend

The first full week of school is in the books and LET ME TELL YOU, I’m ready for the weekend! I kind of forgot how go-go-go the school year is after a summer of a pretty relaxed schedule.

My biggest goal is to stay in bed this morning with a good book for a while! Here are some of my favorite book deals going on right now!

The One with the Kiss CamThe One with the Kiss Cam

The One With the Kiss Cam by Cindy Steel – audiobook – $3.99
This was a Summer Reading Guide pick this year! This book was pure delight! Nora is on a disastrous first date at an NBA game. But when her date gets up to get concessions, the kiss cam hovers over her and the stranger sitting next to her…let’s just say it might just be love at first kiss! This one is clean and funny with great banter and led me down the rabbit hole of other Cindy Steel books!

the secret keeper bookthe secret keeper book

The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton – ebook – $1.99
I’ve read several of Kate Morton’s books and this is by far my favorite. When Laurel is sixteen, a stranger arrives at a family birthday party, calling Laurel’s mother by name and her mother stabs and kills him. The family never mentions it again and the story splits into two parts – Laurel, fifty years in the future, now an extremely successful actress, knows her mother is close to death, and finds herself desperate to understand, before it’s too late, what exactly happened with her mother and this mysterious man she murdered. The other story takes place in the early 40s, during WWII, in London where two young women become friends in the days of the London Blitz. Somehow these stories intersect and Laurel is determined to figure out how. (Full review here)

The House at Riverton by Kate Morton – ebook – $1.99
I have LOVED the Kate Morton books I’ve read but I’ve never read this first one of hers! Clearly, it’s a great weekend for Kate Morton!

this time tomorrow bookthis time tomorrow book

This Time Tomorrow by Emma Straub – ebook – $1.99
I listened to and loved this story about a woman who in her late thirties goes to sleep and mysteriously wakes up on the morning of her 16th birthday, back in the 90s. There are wonderful and terrible things about this, but the most important thing is that her beloved father, who is slipping away in the present, is young and healthy in this alternate past.

Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda HolmesEvvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes

Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes – audiobook – $5.99
This is such a fun, delightful romantic comedy (with a little bit of heaviness). Evvie has just lost her husband, and Dean Tenney is a World Series winning pitcher who suddenly can’t pitch anymore. When he escapes the endless news about his fall from grace, he ends up renting the apartment in Evvie’s too-big-for-her house and the two strike up friendship, based on the agreement that he won’t ask about her late husband and she won’t ask him about baseball.

think againthink again

Think Again: The Power of Knowing What You Don’t Know by Adam Grant – audiobook – $5.99
I read and LOVED Adam Grant’s book, Originals a few years ago and his new book is equally good – he’s just so good at writing the kinds of books that you can’t stop thinking about. Like Originals, it’s full of fascinating stories and terrific insights, and I truly feel like every parent, business owner, teacher, and . . .okay, human, should read this one. It’s one I’ll be returning to again and again because it’s just so insightful!

statistically speakingstatistically speaking

Statistically Speaking by Debbie Johnson – audiobook – $3.99
History teacher, Gemma, loves solid facts, statistics and order. Maybe because her past is exact opposite of that. She thinks about the baby she gave up at age 16 every single day and even more so now that “Baby” might be her new student. This one surprised me with how much I enjoyed it!

Amari and the night brothersAmari and the night brothers

Amari and the Night Brothers by B. B. Alston – audiobook – $6.99
I read this aloud to my children and we were all completely sucked in! Amari’s mourning the disappearance of her beloved older brother (the police say he’s almost certainly dead), but when she gets a pre-recorded message from him, she discovers that there is a supernatural world she’s known nothing about and that her brother was heavily involved before his disappearance. Joining this world isn’t going to be easy, but she’s willing to do whatever it takes to find out what happened to her brother. And she better mean it, because “whatever it takes” turns out to be a LOT. (Plus, this one is a Libro.FM deal so you can use it to make a Yoto card!)

Save Me the Plums by Ruth Reichl – audiobook – $5.99
If I had to pick a single favorite food book, it would probably be Garlic and Sapphires. But this memoir by the same author, about being editor at Gourmet until it shuttered, is also fantastic and snagged a spot on the Summer Reading Guide a few years ago.

the best Christmas pageant everthe best Christmas pageant ever

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson – audiobook – $4.99
I read this classic Christmas read-aloud to my girls a few years ago and it was so fun to revisit. We all got a huge kick out of the Herdman siblings, dubbed “the worst kids in the history of the world” who show up at church because of the free snacks and somehow take over the whole Christmas pageant. This one is a nice short read, so if you’re looking for something that you can get through in a couple of days or a week, this is a good pick. (Plus, this one is a Libro.FM deal so you can use it to make a Yoto card!)
