Book deals for an August weekend

Lovely War by Julie Berry – audiobook – $5.99
The story takes place during World War I and follows four main characters, so you get two love stories for the price of one. Even more interesting? The story is framed by several Greek gods who are in a tiff of their own during World War II (I lied – THREE love stories!). I know it sounds weird, but trust me, it works. It’s in the top 10 books I’ve ever read. And while I read a paper copy, I’ve heard the audio version is STUNNING.

The Last Love Note by Emma Grey – audiobook – $4.99
This one was the first book I finished in 2024 and it made it on to my top favorite books from 2024! This one was heartbreaking and hopeful and I was sucked in from page one about a woman losing her husband first mentally and then physically to early-onset dementia. (I read her new book too – Pictures of You – which I didn’t think was nearly as good).

Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes – audiobook – $5.99
This is such a fun, delightful romantic comedy (with a little bit of heaviness). Evvie has just lost her husband, and Dean Tenney is a World Series winning pitcher who suddenly can’t pitch anymore. When he escapes the endless news about his fall from grace, he ends up renting the apartment in Evvie’s too-big-for-her house and the two strike up friendship, based on the agreement that he won’t ask about her late husband and she won’t ask him about baseball.

My Fair Godmother series by Janette Rallison – ebook – $0.99
3 YA chapter books (over 1200 pages) for $0.99!? Yes please! Whenever someone asks for clean book recommendations, Janette Rallison is always the first to come to my mind (for YA and adults)! After a breakup, Savannah’s fairy godmother sends her and a classmate back to the Middle Ages, where they battle fairy tale mayhem…and maybe find love.

The Maid by Nita Prose – audiobook – $5.99
Molly Gray is a maid in a very upscale hotel – a job she loves because it’s orderly and predictable and she doesn’t have to interact too much with other people, which is a struggle for her. But things start getting chaotic when she goes to clean the room of a wealthy and well-known guest and finds him dead in his bed. And . . . she’s the primary suspect! Molly is going to have to find the real killer if she is to clear her name and she’ll need help to do it, if she can figure out how to ask for it.

Think Again: The Power of Knowing What You Don’t Know by Adam Grant – audiobook – $5.99
I read and LOVED Adam Grant’s book, Originals a few years ago and his new book is equally good – he’s just so good at writing the kinds of books that you can’t stop thinking about. Like Originals, it’s full of fascinating stories and terrific insights, and I truly feel like every parent, business owner, teacher, and . . .okay, human, should read this one. It’s one I’ll be returning to again and again because it’s just so insightful!

I Must Betray You by Ruta Sepetys – audiobook – $5.99
This historical fiction title was a definite win in my book. It’s set in Romania in 1989 and while most European communist regimes are falling apart, Romania is still deep in the throes of Nicolae Ceaușescu’s dictatorship, with most of the world completely unaware. Cristian is 17 years old and dreams of a different life for himself, but when he’s blackmailed into becoming an informer, it looks like all his dreams might go up in smoke unless he’s willing to risk absolutely everything. This one is phenomenal on audio!

The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster – audiobook – $5.99
My mom did the majority of the reading aloud when I was growing up, but this one my dad read to me (and only me!) and I’ll forever have fond memories of it. Plus, it’s just so darn clever. (Plus, this one is a Libro.FM deal so you can use it to make a Yoto card!)

The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year by Ally Carter -audiobook – $4.99
I could not stop talking about this holiday romance/mystery last winter! And the audiobook version? Too fun! It has two narrators, witty banter and it is pure delight from the first to the last page. I did a 30 second book review of it here – but just take my word for it…it is FANTASTIC!

The Eyes and the Impossible by Dave Eggers – audiobook – $5.99
This Newbery Medal winner is like nothing I have ever read before. Johannes is a free dog who lives in a preserve with a bunch of other animals. He makes his daily rounds keeping an eye on who is coming and going. Then a bunch of strange new animals appear…this one is full of art, rescuing, disguises, and escape plans. (Plus, this one is a Libro.FM deal so you can use it to make a Yoto card!)

The Selection by Kiera Cass – audiobook – $4.99
This dystopian romance stars America Singer who is selected as one of 35 girls competing for the hand of the prince in this Cinderella-meets-the-Bachelor young adult novel. I blew through the whole audio series after my third baby was born and loved this frothy series.

How to Keep House While Drowning by KC Davis, LPC – ebook – $2.99
This book is very short – you can read the whole thing in an hour or two – but I’ve been thinking about it endlessly since I read it. If you feel overwhelmed by keeping up your house for whatever reason, this book is for you. I’ve never read a cleaning/organizing/housework book like this one.
