My 2025-2026 School Year Goals

I can hardly believe that we’re about to start a second year of homeschooling.

I’ve been looking back at my posts from this time last year and it definitely felt like a BIG change.

Now, a year later, I’m so glad we took the leap.

This fall, Ella and Ani will be doing part-time public school with some classes at home and some classes at our local public school (I have a post about this here – Ella’s been doing this since 6th grade).

The thing I was most nervous about was juggling my job and homeschooling, but it was smoother than I’d imagined and it forced me to be more efficient with my work to squeeze it into less time.

Here are some of my goals for the 2025-2026 school year:

My goals for school year 2024-2025

  1. No phone before school starts. I did this two years ago where I didn’t look at my phone until the girls went to school and it was ABSURD what a difference it made (I wrote about it here) I never got into a good routine of doing it last year (which was easy for me to justify because no one was leaving for school so there wasn’t the hard cut off), but this year I’m bringing it back. It is hard for me every single day, but makes the biggest difference in my morning routine.
  2. 30 minutes of daily reading. Last year, this was one of the things on our homeschool schedule – 30 minutes of family reading (everyone brought their own book and snuggled up on the couch to read silently). I loved it and it is no coincidence that my reading has been higher this past year than it has been for years! I can’t wait to start this up again.
  3. Host a Yoto Card swap. I have wanted to host an event for a couple of years but this fall is finally the time to do it! I hope it’ll be helpful for people ahead of the holidays to swap out old cards for new ones as their kids grow – I’ll definitely share details as I have them. I can’t wait!
  4. Keep up on my journal writing. Last year, I started doing a Flecks of Gold journal which I love and I try to do it every night before bed (sometimes, I catch up on a few days if I’ve fallen behind). It’s been so fun to look back at things at this time last year and I want to stay in the habit through the school year! My affiliate code is EVERYDAYREADING.
  5. Keep playing pickleball all winter long. I went HARD on pickleball this summer (I’ve been playing probably 5-6 mornings a week, usually for 2-3 hours) and I don’t want to lose it over the winter. Plus it’s just fun! Bart has belonged to a pickleball club for several years and I’m planning to join this winter too.
  6. Figure out a good library routine. This is one of my 2025 goals and it did NOT happen in the first half of the year, but this is my moment to nail it down and stick to it this fall. (I asked for ideas and shared a bunch of suggestions for library routines here!).

What is the school year going to look like for you? What are some of the things you’re focusing on this coming year? I’d love to hear!
